If you received a notification, either by text or email, saying that one of your sensors has been detected as offline, then this could mean that your sensor is having trouble connecting to your WIFI network. In most cases this is not a cause for huge concern, especially if it is just a one-time occurrence, since it may just indicate a temporary WIFI issue. If the offline notifications persist, then you may want to take a deeper look into what is causing the issue.
When you open the mobile app to the main "Sensors" screen you will notice each sensor has its own WIFI strength symbol next to it. You may also notice a negative number located by this symbol. This negative number is the WIFI RSSI value and it tells you how strong your WIFI connection is to the network you have chosen. The closer this number is to zero, the better.
Here is a quick rule for using the RSSI value to determine WIFI signal strength:
- Between -2 and -40: Very good signal strength
- Between -40 and -70: Good signal strength
- Below -70: Poor signal strength and possible connection issues
Any sensor showing an RSSI value between -2 and -70 should not have any issues connecting to WIFI and communicating. Sensors showing values below -70 have a much higher chance of experiencing WIFI connectivity and offline issues.
